A Will is a legal document that outlines the wishes of a person regarding the distribution of their assets after their death. It typically names an executor who is responsible for managing the estate and distributing assets to beneficiaries in accordance with the wishes of the deceased.
It is highly recommended that almost everyone have a Will, regardless of their age or the size of their estate. A Will ensures that your assets are distributed according to your wishes and can help avoid disputes among family members. It is also usually much less costly to probate and estate with a Will than when there is not a Will. The cost savings would most often more than offset the cost of the Will itself.
If you die without a Will, your assets will be distributed according to state law, which may not align with your wishes. This can lead to disputes among family members and friends, and may result in assets being distributed in ways that you would not have wanted. The probate is usually more costly, sometimes vastly more expensive to probate an estate without a Will than when there is a Will.
